Light the World
Saturday 28 March 2015
St Andrew's Anglican Church, Indooroopilly
Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could solve all of the world's problems through music and song? For all human beings to recognise and experience the healing and calming power of music, of all types, would be a dream come true. Not just the words of a song, but the harmonies and melodies of pieces of music that resonate within us and take us to a place of comfort and rest.
Today's programme is going to light the world, or should we say light your world, with sounds and texts that were designed to have a lasting effect. Whether it be the beautiful soft, static chords of Nelson's In Paradisum, the opening cascading notes of Barnum's Dawn, the interaction of the three stunning soprano voices in Macmillan's The Gallant Weaver, the heightened climax of the harmonies changing in Clausen's In Pace, or the haunting ocarina melodies of Ešenvalds’ Long Road, we hope you find something in our programme today that will stay with you forever.
Singers
Soprano: Elise Hickey, Emma Kann, Kate Madden, Bronwyn Mitchell, Bonnie Pearce, Rebecca Thomas
Alto: Stephanie Eaton, Melissa Hutchinson, Nicki Jenkins, Alisen McLeod, Emily Young
Tenor: Brett Gordon, Tom Holownia, Ross Jelf, Tim Smetham, Stuart Szigeti
